Calacatta-look quartz is the most-requested countertop pattern in our showroom, by a wide margin. Every brand has a take on it. They are not all the same. After installing all 6 brands below in the last 12 months, here is how we tell them apart.

Key Takeaways

  • Caesarstone Calacatta Nuvo is the cleanest classic look but pricey.
  • Cambria Brittanicca is the most natural marble feel.
  • MSI Q Premium Calacatta Laza is the best value, runs 30 to 40 percent less.
  • Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold is the most durable surface, antibacterial coating.
  • Vicostone BQ8628 is the closest match to high-end natural Calacatta.
  • LX Hausys Calacatta Classic is the best for waterfalls because of slab consistency.

Contractor Insight

If a customer is wavering on price, MSI Q Calacatta Laza will look almost identical to a Caesarstone Nuvo on the wall and saves them $1,500 to $2,500 on a typical kitchen. We have used both side by side in the same building.

What Brooklyn Calacatta jobs typically look like

Most Brooklyn Calacatta installs are island plus back counter, with the back counter as flat field and the island as the show piece. About 60 percent get a mitered edge on the island, 25 percent get a full waterfall, and the rest stay eased. We pattern-match the island and back counter when possible.

Brand by brand

Strengths, weaknesses, where each one fits.

Caesarstone Calacatta Nuvo (5131)

The classic. Soft grey veins on a warm white. Most natural-looking pattern of the established brands. Premium pricing. 15-year warranty.

Cambria Brittanicca

American-made, no resin smell on install day. Veining is sharper and more dramatic than Caesarstone. Lifetime warranty, but only with Cambria's authorized installers.

MSI Q Premium Calacatta Laza

Best value in the category. Pattern is comparable to Nuvo from 3 feet away. Slab consistency is good. Where the savings come from: less marketing, more direct distribution.

Silestone Eternal Calacatta Gold

Slightly warmer tone with gold-tinged veining. Surface has an antibacterial silver-ion treatment. Holds up well to acid and stains.

Vicostone BQ8628

Most realistic Calacatta vein structure of any quartz on the market. Higher price point. Lead time can run 4 to 6 weeks depending on color.

LX Hausys Calacatta Classic

Excellent slab-to-slab consistency, which matters when you are book-matching for a waterfall. Slight cooler grey tone.

Side by side, the specs that matter

  • Within $20/sf, the visual difference is minor. The pattern match matters more than the brand at that tier.
  • Vicostone is the upgrade pick if budget allows.
  • MSI Q is the smart pick if budget is tight.

How to pick between them

Three steps, 30 minutes at our showroom.

  1. 1

Look at full slabs, not chips

Calacatta patterns repeat every 4 to 6 feet. A 4-inch sample chip will lie to you.

  2. 2

    Stand 8 feet back

That is how most people will see the counter in the actual kitchen.

  3. 3

    Compare side by side

We will pull two or three options and stand them next to each other. The differences become obvious.

Real total install cost, 45 sq ft kitchen

Same kitchen, six brands.

Vicostone BQ8628$3,200$3,200$6,400
LX Hausys Calacatta Classic$2,500$2,800$5,300

Add 25 to 45 percent for mitered edge, 50 to 90 percent for full waterfall.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Choosing from a small sample chip.
  • Skipping the slab viewing because the brand is well-known.
  • Letting the contractor pick the brand to save you a trip.
  • Pattern matching front-to-back without confirming the slab orientation.
  • Assuming Cambria-authorized install means free, it does not, it just means the warranty stays valid.

FAQs

Is Calacatta quartz the same as Calacatta marble?+

No. Calacatta marble is natural stone with the original veining pattern. Calacatta quartz is engineered to look similar but is more durable and lower-maintenance.

Will my Calacatta quartz fade?+

Modern quartz has UV inhibitors. In direct sun for 10+ years some slight fading is possible. In normal kitchen lighting, no.

Can I get a sample to take home?+

Yes, we lend full-size door samples and stone chips overnight. Lighting in your kitchen is the truth, lighting at the showroom is not.
