The challenge

Existing tile counters had to come out without damaging the cabinet boxes the homeowner wanted to keep, the old undermount sink reveal was 1.5 inches off square, and the homeowner wanted the bathroom vanity templated off the same slab as the kitchen to match veining.

What we did

  • 1Demoed the tile counters carefully so the original 1990s oak boxes could keep going for another 5 to 7 years.
  • 2Rebuilt the sink reveal in shim and ply so the new undermount sat true to the cabinet face.
  • 3Templated kitchen and vanity off the same slab in one site visit, used the cleanest section for the kitchen and a quieter section for the bath.
  • 4Pulled a single-bowl 33-inch undermount from stock so the install crew did not have to wait on a sink order.

Outcome

Three working days on site, no callbacks. Homeowner kept the existing cabinets, only paid for stone, sink and vanity. Whole project came in below the cost of a single new big-box vanity install.

"Quartz slab selection on the floor saved us a week of waiting on samples. The install crew nailed the seams."
